I love frogs. I have a number of them living in my backyard. Janeen gave me my first egg clutch 3 years ago. Since then they have been laying eggs in my pollywog pond and hatching each summer. Summer evenings the males serenade each females. Sweet music.

I am working on this painting for the Honeycutt's. As you can see it is a fishing boat docked at a commercial wharf. This is the start. I like to layout the composition first in burnt sienna. I don't start adding color until I have the composition perfect.

This is a painting in progress of a snarled head-sail sheet on a Lewmar self-tailing winch. The winch is on the sailing vessel Kiva. We were guests aboard Kive when she sailed from the Dominican Republic to the Bahamas in 2010. I hope to have this painting completed for the joint Nautical Show in May with the Oregon Maritime Museum and Oregon Society of Artists.

Lindy's Great Grandma's teapot

As you can see the vase has disappeared and has been replaced by an old milk bottle. Lindy's cousins confirmed that her Grandmother use a milk bottle to hold her red roses. So, the vase had to go. I am in the process of painting out the vase.

This painting is of the tall communications tower that over looks the city from Council Crest. On our of my morning walks my neighbor and I walked up to Healy Heights from our street. When we arrived at the top the sun was shining through the trees illuminating the tower. This is the resulting painting from that days walk. My thought in making it a diptych was that it would create the illusion of height; as if it were so tall it would take 2 canvases to show the entire structure. Not sure if it works. Note that the two canvases do line up perfectly (both are 12" wide)unlike depicted here.

This first painting of the bird's nest that was knocked out of a fir tree by some naughty critter has 4 eggs. I don't think an even number of eggs makes a good composition, so, I will repaint the same nest but with 3 eggs. BTW, the eggs were put back into the nest and the nest was put back into the tree.

This is the second of two paintings I did of a bird's nest that was knocked to the ground. I am guessing either crows or raccoons knocked the nest out of the tree. The eggs were put back in the nest but I don't haave much hope they will hatch.

This is a photo of last years artichoke that flowered. It was so beautiful I just couldn't pick and eat the artichokes I grew. I made a flower arrangement from the instead! I already have little artichokes forming on this years huge plant. I plan on letting them flower again. I get much more enjoyment from the flowers than eating the artichokes.

My husband, Jim and his cat Esper read the paper together every morning in their favorite chair. This is their ritual. Esper was diagnosed with cancer, Fibrosarcoma, July 2010. Jim asked me to paint a picture of her to remember her by.

It is now March 2011 and Esper is still with us. She is a strong cat, however, her tumor (located on her shoulder) is now twice the size of her head. She is playful, has a great appetite, jumps up on the counter, so, she is not in pain. We are enjoying every moment with her.

RIP Esper, March 18, 2011. Tears.

Georgia is my beautiful foster rabbit. She goes to her new home on Saturday. I wanted to do this study of her before I paint a large picture of her. She is so regal. Georgia has big, dark doe eyes.
Georgia came back from her new home because she was chasing and attacking the dog at her new home. Georgia doesn't like or tolerate dogs. She knows it is either her or them.
So, now that Georgia is back with me I am keeping her! She is the most amazing rabbit. I love her spunk! So, I have renamed her. She is now Stella Artois.... STELLA!

I continue to paint eggs (compliments of Chelsea's chickens, Ethel/Ginger/Agnes) in different poises. Practice, practice. In this painting I tried for looser and more painterly strokes; a more relaxed style. The eggs and stripes are not as refined as in the previous paintings.

Hugodarling, an English Lop, was Chelsea's rabbit. He was rescued by some people hiking in the Columbia Gorge. It still upsets me that someone (perhaps a breeder since he had a breeders mark in his ear) dumped him in the woods.... a sure death for a domestic rabbit. But, lucky for Hugodarling he was rescued in time and went to Chelsea's house where he lived like a king. SOLD

I have always been fascinated with trains. I don't know why. Maybe because my grandfather worked for the railroad, Southern Pacific. I was in Lake Oswego photographing for the Art Council of Lake Oswego Invitational show when this train came right through the center of town. I thought it quite unusual that an upscale community like LO still has a train running across main street.

This painting brings to mind the little ditty we use to recite when we were kids.... "Railroad crossing look out for the cars, can you spell it without any Rs?"..... IT.

I am working on this painting of Esper, our sweet torby. As I said earlier, she has been diagnosed with fibrosarcoma. She is putting up a great fight. It has been six months now since the first tumor was removed. She now has 3 new tumors. She looks me in the eyes and she asks me "Why". I can only tell her that the drug companies want all the money and don't care who they harm... cats or people.

Oregon Society of Artists (2185 SW Park Place, Portland) is having a fundraiser to raise money to plumb water into the downstairs studio. The show will be held in November. First day of the show and reception date is October 30, 1pm to 4pm. Each artist will produce 4 6"x6" canvas of one theme. The four paintings will be hung together but each will sell separately.

The price tag on the paintings will be unbelievaly low. I will price my 4 canvas' at $25 each or buy all four for $90. The paintings will be price to sell! fast!

Step 2 - painting in warm black and white.

Step 3 - starting to glaze in the color, soft brown for the eggs, pale peach for the silk drape, white table cloth, the ribbon is blue.
